ASSISTANT FILL-IN NURSERY CARE GIVER

JOB DESCRIPTION

SALARY: $30.00/Sunday ($15/hour); 9:30 am to 11:30 am and other times as requested/available.

SUMMARY OF WORK: To provide high-quality Nursery care for infants and toddlers under the supervision of the Pastor and within the scope of this job description and perform other duties as assigned. This position is a fill-in position, as needed when one of the regular providers is not available.

QUALIFICATIONS - At a minimum, a Nursery Care Giver shall have or demonstrate:

1. Experience caring for infants and toddlers.

2. Enjoy the company of children, particularly infants/toddlers.

3. Hold current certification (or able to obtain certification by start date) in infant/toddler CPR.

4. Provide at least two verifiable child-care employment references.

5. Must pass a Background Check.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. When scheduled, shall arrive at Pilgrim Church 30 minutes before worship (9:30 am)/events to set up an inviting Nursery environment. Shall be at the Nursery door at 9:45 am (or 15 minutes before the scheduled event) to welcome parents and children, and sign children in as they arrive.

2. Extend a warm and appropriate welcome to children while they participate in the Nursery. Shall provide for the safety and well-being of the children while in the Nursery.

3. Participate in a Pilgrim Nursery Orientation/Training session as scheduled and required.

4. Become oriented and agree to abide by the Pilgrim Abuse Prevention Policy and practices.

5. Pass out all parental forms and obtain signatures as needed. Shall maintain attendance sheets & other forms as provided by Pastor/Lead Nursery.

6. Lead and engage children in a basic weekly program which may include making a craft, reading a story, and/or leading a song, using age-appropriate material with ‘older’ toddlers able to enjoy it. Care Giver, whether a member of Pilgrim Congregational UCC or not, shall be sensitive to the UCC and Congregational way and shall refrain from any statement or behavior which does not comport with the Pilgrim Congregational UCC mission statement.

7. In case of absence, shall notify Pastor/Lead Nursery immediately. Shall give as much advance notice as possible to Pastor/Lead Nursery of expected absences.

8. Shall immediately report to the parent and Pastor/Lead Nursery any physical injury or other problem which calls for adult follow-up. In the event of an injury to a child or damage to the facility, the appropriate form shall be completed and filed with the church Office Manager to be turned in to insurance.

9. At the conclusion of worship (@11:20 am or when all children have been picked up by their parents (signed out) after the event, whichever occurs last) put away equipment, toys, and books and return the room to its original condition. Damage to equipment/toys/books which are the result of normal wear and tear shall be reported at the conclusion of the shift to the Pastor/Lead Nursery in order to allow for repair/replacement as warranted.

10. When there are no children in the nursery, a notice shall be posted on the door stating where the Care Giver may be found. Care Giver may attend worship/church events, or perform other activities as may be assigned by Pastor/Lead Nursery so long as it does not conflict with the primary duty of the position to the nursery.
